What is Fibrosis & Scar Management
Fibrosis & Scar Management is a specialized hands-on therapy designed to help improve the quality and mobility of scar tissue while reducing the firm, lumpy tissue (fibrosis) that can develop after surgery, injury, radiation, or trauma.
Fibrosis occurs when the body produces excess collagen during the healing process. While scar tissue is a normal part of healing, too much collagen can create thickened, hardened areas that may feel tight, uncomfortable, or restrict movement.
This treatment is commonly recommended after procedures such as tummy tucks, liposuction, C-sections, mastectomies, orthopedic surgeries, and reconstructive procedures, as well as for scars resulting from injuries or burns.
Fibrosis & Scar Management Client Preparation
To help you get the most from your Fibrosis & Scar Management treatment, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:
✓ Obtain medical clearance from your surgeon or healthcare provider if you are recovering from surgery.
✓ Wait until your incision is fully closed unless your healthcare provider has specifically approved earlier treatment.
✓ Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area.
✓ Arrive well hydrated. Drinking plenty of water before your session helps support healthy lymphatic function.
✓ Eat a light meal or snack 1–2 hours before your appointment to help you feel comfortable during treatment.
✓ Avoid applying lotions, oils, or creams to the treatment area on the day of your visit.
✓ Bring any compression garments your surgeon has recommended, if applicable.
✓ Bring a list of your medications and be prepared to discuss your medical history and surgical timeline.
✓ Inform Lilly of any changes in your health, including fever, infection, increased redness, unusual swelling, or drainage from your incision.
✓ Allow extra time for your first visit, as it includes a thorough health history, assessment, and personalized treatment plan.
Please note: Fibrosis & Scar Management is performed using gentle, specialized techniques designed to support healing. Treatment is always adapted to your stage of recovery and your comfort level. Your safety is our highest priority.
Important: If you have recently undergone surgery, written or verbal clearance from your surgeon or healthcare provider is required before beginning Fibrosis & Scar Management treatments. If you experience signs of infection, increased redness, fever, unusual swelling, or drainage, treatment will be postponed until you have been evaluated and cleared by your healthcare provider.

What to Expect
Specialized manual therapy is used to help soften fibrotic tissue, improve scar mobility, and support healthy tissue remodeling. Treatment should never feel aggressive or painful. It is important to let me know how you're feeling throughout the session so pressure and techniques can be adjusted for your comfort. Depending on your needs, treatment may address the scar itself, surrounding tissues, and the lymphatic system to encourage optimal healing.
After Your Fibrosis & Scar Management Session
Scar tissue and fibrosis develop over time, and meaningful improvements often occur over a series of treatments rather than after a single session.
✓ Drink plenty of water for the next 24 - 48 hours to support your lymphatic system and tissue recovery.
✓ Continue wearing your compression garment if it has been recommended by your surgeon or healthcare provider.
✓ Perform any home care exercises or scar care techniques we discuss.
✓ Engage in gentle movement, such as walking or light stretching, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.
✓ Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that cause excessive discomfort for 24 hours unless approved by your surgeon.
✓ Do not aggressively massage or manipulate the treated area between sessions unless specifically instructed.
✓ Keep the treatment area clean and continue following your surgeon's wound care instructions if applicable.
✓ Monitor your healing. Mild tenderness or temporary redness can be normal after treatment.
✓ Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience increasing pain, fever, excessive swelling, unusual redness, warmth, drainage, or any signs of infection.
✓ Attend your recommended treatment schedule. Fibrosis and scar tissue remodeling are gradual processes, and consistent treatments often provide the best results.
Remember: Healing takes time. Every scar and every body heals differently. Consistency with treatment, proper home care, and following your healthcare provider's recommendations will help you achieve the best possible outcome.
